As a student of Liberal Arts at Penn State, I like to think that my education is well rounded and unique. With a school as diverse as PSU, it's almost impossible to find anyone with the exact same opinions as you. Students bounce opinions and ideas off each other as we grow to be come more educated individuals. We learn that another opinion is never wrong, just different. Students come to college to get this experience, to interact with others and earn an education that is as diverse as the population. The desire for education has always been an admirable one. One who wishes to educate themselves are in a way, some of the most educated people. Those who realize the value of knowledge are truly the most intelligent.
That's not what Rick Santorum thinks. Yes, dear old Santorum, everyone's favorite republican. He has a knack for earning the college aged liberal's attention, though its not always positive attention. Santorum calls Obama's idea of having college education accessible to all snobbish. Snobbish! Young adults, hoping to broaden their horizons and become more educated citizens, are basically all snobbish brats. Santorum also accuses universities of ridiculing students who consider themselves republican. While it's true that most students in college would consider themselves more to the left than on the right side of the political spectrum, there aren't any hate crimes against republican students.
The thing is, Rick Santorum not only has a B.A. in Political Science, but he has a B.A. in Political Science from Penn State! Since Political Science is a Liberal Arts Major, I assume that Santorum received an education similar to the one I'm receiving now. As I've already described, I'm receiving a unique and diversely rounded education. Not only does he have a bachelor's degree from PSU, but he also earned his law degree from Dickinson School of Law, who's parent institution is Penn State as well. How can a man who earned two degrees from such a diverse and accepting school claim that those who wish to earn an education for themselves are "snobbish?" To me, there is no reason for these claims, and they are just empty words meant to stir up the debates.
